Stigma Maps Weekend Gamespy Working Again GameSpy Not Working For Kingpin Again Reminder Regarding nHancer Utility Hitmen Sunday Night Game UK Time‏ Team Maroc Bagman Map by Dread

Now that Gamespy is working again I thought it ws a good opportunity to celebrate the maps of Stigma, a long term mapper with Kingpin, which a Stigma maps weekend on our Detropolis Server.

So this coming weekend starting Friday night 12th March Detropolis will be rotating many of the maps Stigma has made over the years.
Stigma has been mapping for Kingpin for several years and a lot of his maps were made with assistance from me and also Hypov8 so there are a lot of different themes and styles. But, that being said, in recent times I would describe his style as "urban green" (urban with tress, green, bushes etc).

The maps in rotation will include:-

Good news. Kingpin servers are now showing up in Gamespy again.
In case this problem happens again I suggest you make all the servers Favourites because they show up even when this problem occurs.

If your version of Kingpin doesn't include Gamespy Lite we have an updated version which you can download from here.

Once again Gamespy is not showing any Kingpin servers (other than the ones you have selected as favourites).

Until the problem is resolved you can try another server browser such as QTracker which you can download from here.

I loaded the latest nVidia drivers onto a PC this week and then Kingpin wouldn't work. So it looks like the problem with the latest drivers hasn't been fixed yet. I installed nHancer and set up a profile for Kingpin then it worked fine.

To set up a profile for Kingpin:-
Create a profile for kingpin and add the executable (kingpin.exe)
Click on the 'Compatability' tab and then go to the 'Opengl Settings' tab and set the following:
in the settings "conformat texture clamp" check and select 'off'
in the settings "driver extension limit" check and type "11a8"
exit nEnacer and then execute the game, and it should work.

Our old friend Kill@ has organised a game of Hitmen on his server for this Sunday night 7th March..

Here is another quality map and this time it's a Bagman map.

Team Maroc by Dread is a very nice looking, well layed out, map that uses all custom textures. Dread described it as an urban/desert style map. The screenshots show what he meant. It's a small to medium sized map, has 20 player spawns, with a recommended player load of 8 - 12, and a good selection of weapons and other items.

Here is another top quality map. This is possibly the best looking custom map made for KP.

Undying1 is a large Deathmatch map set in an old spooky mansion which uses textures from the game Undying. The map looks excellent from the grand entryway, the music room, chapel, lounge areas, secret passage, grandoise hallways, to the bar area etc. The textures look great and suite the theme of the map perfectly.
It uses many Undying textures and has several custom sounds.

I thought it would be a good idea to post about some maps that are of high quality for one reason or another.

One such map is Arena Gate by Hypov8 & Mr Knoxville which is a conversion of the Quake3 map Q3DM1. A heck of a lot of work was put into making this map with details included such as the statues from the original as well as the giant tongue and all the other bits and pieces from the Q3 map. For anyone not familiar with this map it is a small one with an outside courtyard containing two large statues and an inside area where there is a giant tongue cave. The amount of weapons and items and their location is very similar to the original and the map contains a nice KP2 animated texture. Basically this is an excellent conversion Hypo and Knox.

Here is a neat little pak file that we didn't have here at KP4Ever which changes the silhouette of the man with the armor on the left bottom corner of the HUD to a woman.

Extract the pak5 file to your kingpin/main folder.

If you already have a pak5 file then extract the new pak5 to a temp location somewhere (such as your desktop), rename it to a number you dont have such as pak2, pak4 etc then copy it to your kingpin/main folder.

Crystal Palace, by Tilak, is one of those 'old school' map in the style of Central Towers. It is a large, well laid out, map and uses the same texture set as used in kpdm5. If you have never seen thsi map I recommend you check it out.

In case you didn't know, that very curvy high quality model made by Paul Steed for Quake2 was converted to Kingpin by {GT}Freak back in 2002.
She has full KP vweap support and comes with 30+ skins (varying from skimpy outfits to absolutely nuthin).

Just another reminder for players who download most of their custom maps from the Kingpin servers to download and run the Mover-v6 utility.

The reason is this, if you downlaod map while playing the Hitmen mod it puts it into the Hitmen/maps folder. Then if you join another server running a different mod, such as the Extreme mod, but running the same map it will d/l the map again, because Kingpin looks in the main/maps folder for the map and not i nthe mod folders. Hence you can end up with the same map in several different places and with a larger than necessary Kingpin folder.

If you d/l and run the Mover6 utility by TiCaL it moves all maps, textures, sounds, skins, etc, from your mod folders back to main where they belong in the main folder. The zip includes a Readme with clear instructions on how to run it.
