Well here's my first review!
It's nice that a great map like team_mars by Knockdown is the first one. Team_mars at first glance is a nice wide spacious outdoor map. As the name would suggest it is a space station of some kind on Mars. There are some Mars textures but if I have to be honest some of the textures don't really express Mars atmosphere and there are some misaligned or badly stretched textured. Nevertheless I like the way the team bases are coloured - red and blue. The links between them are also nice. I love the two cabins which move across the pit and I can imagine the battle if for instance both teams are on train... Another link are the speed tunnels which are quite fun to go through. There are exit signs pointing which tunnel goes where. The architecture is good. Great platforms snd stairs that are nicely styled. No abrupt edges just curves and angled walls. One fault may be considered the fact that you can rocket jump onto the edge of the level where I don't think you are supposed to go. Weapons are easy to find. Usually in dead ends or corners you can get anything you need supplied with loads of armour and health. The map is brightly lighted. You can rarely find dark spots which is nice and the orange light of the sky improves the Mars look. Most of the lighting comes from the side of the steps and platforms which is nice but some areas are maybe a little too white. Specific to bagman the cash spawn zone is in the middle of the map as normal bagman maps. Getting the money back to your base would be a dynamic experience. There are not many places you can hide and no corridors you can hide behind the corners of. Overall I like the map and if you fancy a little different atmosphere then you will love team_mars. Connectivity and flow are great and some of the epic chases will be a lot of fun. Knockdown has done a good job of the mighty task of making space stations that look original. One little note I'd like to make at the end. When I downloaded the map and unzipped it into my Kingpin directory a lot (if not all) of the resources (sounds, textures, etc.) were already present e.g. come with the actual game. I don't know why that is but it does make the archive a bit bigger than it is supposed. |
